Six Types of Acne Skin Conditions in Review
Occasional breakouts are one thing; huge cystic areas are another. Acne comes in a variety of forms from the minor zit eruptions to the major volcanic acne. 1. Acne Vulgaris – This form is the most common of all acne skin conditions. Acne vulgaris is broken down into six sub-categories:
a. Whitehead – blocked oil glands which typically form a small white head that most people call a pimple. It is completely contained beneath the skin’s surface.
b. Blackhead – partially obstructed pores in which some oil and bacteria slowly makes its way to the skin’s surface and turn a dark color when exposed to air.
c. Papules – sensitive small red bumps which show no head.
d. Pustules – aka zits or pimples, in which there is a small yellowish or white head surrounded by irritated red skin.
e. Nodules – hard lumps just below the skin’s surface that can painfully linger on for months.
f. Cysts – pus-filled nodules that are painful and potentially scarring
2. Acne Rosacea – This type of skin affliction is characterized by a red rash that usually appears on the chin, cheeks, nose and forehead. Pimples may occur within the rash. This rash-like acne breakout is not quite related to the acne vulgaris; however it can provide just as much embarrassment.
3. Acne Conglobata – A rare type of debilitating acne, it is related to the acne vulgaris. Lasting scars can be the result of this form. Acne conglobata usually finds its way to the chest, back, thigh, arms, face and buttocks; blackheads also appear in numbers around this acne.
4. Acne Neonatorum – Also known as baby acne, almost 25% of newborns get it. A few weeks after birth, small papules red in color form around the cheeks and bridge of the nose. It is thought that the lingering hormones passed from the mom to the child are the likely culprit. Baby acne clears on its own.
5. Pyoderma Faciale – Females around twenty to forty years are more prone to get these painfully huge cysts, pustules and nodules on the face. Permanent scarring can result; and ladies who have never really experiences breakouts of any form tend to get it.
6. Acne Fulminans – Aching joints and fever are just two of the symptoms that can signal this sudden case acne conglobata. Anabolic steroids are sometimes to blame just as much as your immune system. This type of acne is rare and typically males get it.
There are also other types of acne that related to particular things like a person’s workplace, cosmetics, shaving and even medication. As you can see, acne touches upon many avenues of life.
