Technically, acne is not caused by food. Oh, you’ve heard that acne is the result of consuming too much chocolate, pizza and French fries. While there are no direct food ties to acne, many scientists and researchers believe that making changes in your diet can play a huge part in clearing those pimples up. It is too much of a coincidence that adding certain herbs, foods or even taking away foods in your diet coincides with a diminishing zip problem.

Pimples can not only scar you physically but also mentally. So if you had the power to even possibly reduce your acne breakouts, wouldn’t you at least try? The upside is that you may end up eating healthier and even lose weight! Therefore, here are a few tips on making dietary changes for the treatment of acne:

1. Cut down on your refined carbs and manufactured foods. There is a chain reaction going on in your body. You eat the refined carbs, sugars and manufactured foods which cause a higher level of insulin. In turn, this insulin boost increases testosterone levels which can contribute to acne. Of course, you could be one of those lucky souls whose body simply burns that off.

2. Food allergies may be a culprit of acne with milk leading the pack. If you are a big milk drinker and suffer from zits, cut down on your milk intake and get your calcium and other milk vitamins like vitamin D from alternate sources such as soy, fish and leafy green vegetables.

3. Antioxidants are so beneficial to maintaining healthy glowing skin. It is no wonder that a diet rich in them greatly reduces and even prevents acne breakouts. You can find antioxidants in green tea as well. Omega-3 which is great for heart health has shown beneficial properties in people with pimples.

3. Look to vitamin and mineral supplements for acne protection. Beta carotene aka vitamin A protects the skin and reduce production in the oil glands. This in turn should slow or halt your pimples’ progress. Zinc is a widely known antibacterial mineral that reduces oil production. Chromium and vitamin E also are beneficial.

4. Cleanse your liver and intestines which in turn helps clear acne. Some people believe that a build up of toxins in your liver contributes to your pimple population. By eating foods that will help cleanse your liver and intestines, you should see your acne breakouts lessen or disappear all together. Such foods to consume include apples and other foods high in dietary fiber, beetroot and even such herbs as milk thistle. In addition, eat plenty of vegetables preferably in their raw state. Avoid refined foods and drink plenty of water to flush out your body.

Like cooking, eating and digesting food is like one big chemical reaction. Each person digests and absorbs nutrients differently. Will dietary treatments work for your acne? Perhaps, but one thing is for sure. Adopting healthier eating habits is good for you, no matter what the situation. Enjoying good health just may be enough to reduce those acne breakouts.

  1. I use to think acne was probablky the effect for excess of oil in our daily food that we take but after reading this i quitely understand that there are different reasobs for acne and the green tea treatment and taking it mostly will make us secure from acne thanks for the inforamation.
